Plight of education: 104 government schools in Goa reported non-functional

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that there are 104 non-functioning government primary schools in the State.   According to him, the schools have been closed due to nil enrollment and the government primary schools have been used for other purposes. 

The Chief Minister said the government has devised a scheme to provide land and buildings of the unused schools to the non-profit institutions and social organisations.

He has also said that the Public Works Department (PWD) has been appointed as nodal department for carrying out safety audits of all government buildings  including government primary schools.

All the offices functioning in Old SCERT building at Porvorim have been directed to vacate the premises and Non Destructive Test (NDT) is under process through Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi.

Sawant has said that government has taken cognisance of the death of a special child, who had suffered a fall from Old SCERT (State Council of Educational Research and Training) building at Porvorim, who succumbed to his injuries on account of the loose railing which gave way and the steps taken to attend to this impending danger consequent upon the collapse of the railing.
