PM Modi submits resignation to President after cabinet recommends LS dissolution

Modi is likely to be sworn in as the Prime Minister for a third consecutive term on June 8 evening.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with the his council of ministers tendered his resignation to President Droupadu Murmu on Wednesday. This step will lead to the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha, which was in session from 2019 to 2024. 

The decision to resign was made following a cabinet meeting held in New Delhi, where the recommendation to dissolve the cabinet, whose term is set to expire on June 16, was put forward. PM Modi drove down to Rashtrapati Bhavan to call on President Droupadi Murmu soon after.

PM Modi and the Council of Ministers tendered their resignation to President Droupadi Murmu. The President accepted the resignation and requested Modi and his ministers to continue in their roles until the new government assumes office. 

As per the sources a meeting of the newly elected MPs of the NDA, led by the BJP will be held in the national capital to discuss the formation of the government. Modi is likely to be sworn in as the Prime Minister for a third consecutive term on June 8 evening.
