PONDA: Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) on Friday approved its surplus budget for the Financial Year 2018-19 worth Rs 36.16 crore which exceeded by Rs 70 lakh.
Speaking to media persons, Chairperson Radhika Naik said the sitting Council’s tenure expires in May and this budget will be available for the new Council which will be formed after the election scheduled on April 29.
She further said the case against Sopo Contractor filed by PMC for pending sopo tax arrears for the year 2014-15 has been withdrawn and arrears of Rs 29 lakhs payable by him has been waived off.
for which Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) has given approval.
When asked why the case against the sopo contractor was withdrawn, she said many vendors did not pay the sopo tax for that year (2014-15) claiming sopo rate hike was unreasonable, hence it was decided to withdraw the case and to waive off the arrears and refund his security deposit.
It was also decided to conduct an auction for sopo tax collection for the year 2018-19 for the open space in Market area. She said the vendors who had not cleared their Sopo Tax dues for the past years have to clear their dues. The Chief Officer has been fully authorised to recover the dues, she added.
It was also decided to put up a proposal before Deputy Collector to install elevated corridors in place of rumblers existing on town roads, as local vehicle riders complained of back pain.
