PMC councillors make effort to dislodge chairperson

Councillors cite that they are unhappy with Naik’s style of working; Efforts are on to bring a no-confidence motion

PONDA: Disgruntled Ponda Municipal councillors are making efforts to destabilise and dislodge the MGP-supported ruling council Chairperson Pradeep Naik.
For the last couple of days, the councillors have complained that they are unhappy with his style of working and on that note, they have are attempting to move a no-confidence motion against him. However, similar moves in the past have failed.
The Ponda Municipal Council consists of 15 members, which includes seven councillors from MGP who as per the original equation, have the support of five BJP-led councillors, while there are three Congress councillors in the opposition. Vice-Chairperson Vishwanath Dalvi is from BJP group.
The few councillors who are willing to dislodge Pradeep Naik have met the MGP leader and Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar but the meeting was inconclusive.
Against the backdrop of the recent differences between MGP and BJP, BJP has yet to move a no-confidence motion. Sources stated that a group of four to five councillors are leading the efforts to remove Pradeep Naik from the Chairperson post.
However, Naik said that he is aware that some people are making effort to remove him and attributed this to their own selfish politics.  He maintained that he is not bothered about the post and that he is only focussed on development work.  He added that he had faith in God and hopes that nothing will go against him as he has support from most of the councillors.
