PMC passes budget of over Rs 27 cr

Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has passed a budget of over Rs 27 crore for the financial year 2013-14, while making provision of Rs 50 lakh towards garbage disposal and Rs 20 lakh towards maintenance of garbage disposal plant.

PONDA: Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has passed a budget of over Rs 27 crore for the financial year 2013-14, while making provision of Rs 50 lakh towards garbage disposal and Rs 20 lakh towards maintenance of garbage disposal plant.

Of the 13 councillors, eight attended the special meeting called to discuss budget on Wednesday. 

“We have passed a balanced budget and this time we made a special provision of Rs 20 lakh towards maintenance of garbage disposal units. The council has also decided to increase the budget towards expenditure on solid waste management to Rs 50 lakh,” informed PMC Chairperson Rukmi Dangui.

According to sources, during the last couple of years the budget towards solid waste management was between Rs 25 and Rs 35 lakh per year however, this time PMC has increased it to Rs 50 lakh.

PMC recently installed organic waste converter (capacity 200 kg per day) and also plans to install another similar machine with a capacity of 3 tonnes.

PMC’s garbage disposal plant project in Keriyem-Khandepar is also in the pipeline and it is learnt that the council has made a provision of Rs 20 lakh towards maintenance of garbage disposal machinery.

According to the budget, PMC is expecting revenue of Rs 27.67 crore, while an equal amount has been earmarked towards expenditure.
