PMC rejects request to hike fee for using public toilets

PONDA: The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) on Friday rejected the request of the contractor running public toilets in the town to revise user fee. The contractor wanted the fee to be hiked to Rs 5.
A meeting chaired by Chairperson Pradeep Naik also decided to identify the trees leaning on houses and write to the Deputy Collector for permission to cut them well before commencement of monsoon. The council has also decided to identify dangerous overhead electric wires and request the department to carry out repairs. 
Chairperson Naik said that every ward has been sanctioned Rs 5 lakh for carrying out development works including repairs and constructions of gutters and other facilities. 
He said sewerage work in PMC area would be completed in March and hot-mix carpeting of all roads would commence in April. The roads in Ponda are dug currently for constructing sewage wells laying pipeline for the proposed STP.
Meanwhile, the Ponda Business and Professional Forum has submitted a memorandum to PMC asking to roll back the recent hikes in trade and other taxes in PMC area stating that it would be a burden on the business community.
