PONDA: PMC chairperson Radhika Naik on Tuesday said that the chief officer Johnson Fernandes has filed a complaint in the local court against the sopo contractor for three dishonoured cheques amounting to Rs 29 lakh issued to PMC towards sopo collection instalment.
She said that after then chief minister Manohar Parrikar got involved in the matter PMC had reduced sopo tax from Rs 20 to Rs 12 in the market shed and from Rs 10 to Rs 6 in open areas but vendors were still not ready to pay it disputing the rates. Naik said the matter is linked with the government and PMC and hoped the government will resolve the matter.
She said the council will submit the necessary representation on the latest development on the matter to the government for a suitable solution.
