PONDA: Ponda Muncipal Council (PMC) will auction the sopo collection for the year 2015-16 and complete the process of awarding the contract in August. PMC Chairperson Radhika Naik said the process which was delayed due to non-payment of sopo by some market vendors would start only after the council adopts a resolution for framing bylaws for auctioning of the sopo collection at its next meeting.
PMC also decided to rehabilitate some market vendors in the newly constructed market complex by allotting shops. Shop owners who were shifted to construct the complex would be accommodated first. PMC would also give shops and spaces to banks, self help groups and unemployed youth.
PMC also received an award from the government for the second time for best practices in solid waste management, Naik said.
She said 800 LED streetlights will be fixed in the town within a few days, besides there would be CCTV cameras installed to monitor traffic, crime and other incidents. PMC also decided to hike house tax and other taxes and repair primary schools in its jurisdiction.
