PONDA: Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) on Tuesday resolved to blacklist those contractors and builders found violating rules and providing misleading information at the time of obtaining permissions.
PMC has also identified four buildings as unsafe and while three belong to the PMC, one belongs to a private party.
According to information, PMC had convened a special meeting following a circular by the State government to review construction licenses and occupancy certificates. The circular was issued in the wake of recent building collapse in Canacona that had left 31 workers dead.
“We have identified two such buildings where it appears that misleading information was provided to obtain permissions, as there is no proper parking space. The contractor and the builder will be blacklisted and in future, PMC will not issue permissions to the projects undertaken by them (builder and contractor),” informed PMC Chairperson Dr Radhika Naik.
“The resolution passed to blacklist the contractor and builder will be forwarded to the government. We will also send names of the builder and the contractor (blacklisted), so that authorities know before hand while issuing the permissions,” Dr Naik added.
“As per directions from the government, PMC will review construction licenses and occupancy certificates issued from 2009. Notices will be issued to contractors who have not renewed construction licenses and during the time of inspection the ward member will accompany the PMC inspection team,” she informed.
PMC has identified four buildings, three belonging to PMC and another belonging to a private party, which are unsafe.
PMC has already written to the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) regarding the three buildings and has written to the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) in connection with the fourth building.
