PONDA: The Ponda Municipal Council has decided to re-auction the idle shops at the Ponda Market Complex at reduced rates during a council meeting held on Tuesday.
The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has been struggling to sell the shops due to a poor response from vendors and councillors have come to a decision to auction the shops for a fourth time at a reduced rate by providing all the basic facilities at the complex, PMC Chairperson Geetali Talavalikar told media after the meeting.
After ten years PMC is still struggling to auction more than 100 shops in the Ponda market complex.
“As the auction gets a very poor response and no takers, the councillors decided to re-auction the shop for the fourth time at reduced rates and provide all basic facilities in the complex to attract bidders,” said PMC Chairperson Geetali Talavalikar.
“The security deposit will be taken for three months. The auction rates for shops at top floors will remain lower compared to the ground floor,” Talavalikar added.
It may be recalled that most of the shops at the Ponda Market Complex were closed because the vendors complained there were no basic facilities provided by the PMC.
“All facilities including power, water connection etc, will be provided to bidders who will join the auction of the shops,” the PMC Chairperson added.
