PMC’s ego is a hurdle: Lavoo

PONDA: Reiterating his opposition to the controversial Sopo tax, Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar said the ball is in the court of the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) to resolve the issue.

“The council is supreme as it is the local body and the matter is in its hand. However, I am against it and a rollback of the tax is the only solution. If they hesitate to do this, the problem will never be solved,” said Mamledar, while speaking to media persons at a news conference to announce the Ghumat Arthi competition at the Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir in Ponda.
“Since the Ganesh festival is fast approaching, the PMC should ensure that there is no harassment to the vendors, as it would eventually affect the common man. The Sopo hike has not benefitted PMC, but only the contractor.” “In a public meeting, I had promised if my panel was elected, there would be Sopo collection by PMC and not any contractor. But the council, which is elected on my support, is not bothered. It is the PMC’s ego that has become a hurdle in solving the issue,” said Mamledar.
