PANJIM: The Panaji Municipal Market Tenants Association (PMMTA) on Monday stated that they are ready to execute lease agreement with the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) and not the leave and licence agreement and said that they will also clear all dues accumulated till date after execution of the lease agreement.

Reacting to the statement made by CCP councillor and market committee, Chairman Pramay Mainkar said, “The CCP is in the process of issuing eviction notice to all the shopkeepers and traders of the new market complex for not signing the leave and licence agreement after giving them a week’s time to vacate the shops/stall in the market.”

PMMTA president Rajendra Dhamaskar said, “All the shopkeepers and traders have filed their replies in individual capacity to the notices fixed in the market complex by the CCP.”

“The association is demanding to fulfil the promise and commitment given to them by the then Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar while demolishing the old market and rehabilitating them in the new market complex,” Dhamaskar added.

He further reiterated that all shopkeepers and traders are ready to execute the lease agreement and not the leave and licence agreement and that they are ready to pay all dues on execution of lease agreement.

Dhamaskar also alleged that the CCP authorities are harassing them by forcing them to close the market at 6:30 pm  everyday while all shops situated outside the market and other places are allowed to be kept open till 8:30 pm thereby violating the curfew norms.

He also said that the CCP has stopped sweeping and collecting waste from the first floor of the market for the last one week making it difficult for the people to visit the first floor.
