Poinguinim baker crushed to death

CANACONA, MARCH 9 A 60-year-old baker from Poinguinim was crushed to death by a speeding truck, after the baker fell off his motorcycle near Canacona Police station on Wednesday morning.

A 60-year-old baker from Poinguinim was crushed to death by a speeding truck, after the baker fell off his motorcycle near Canacona Police station on Wednesday morning.
According to unidentified sources, Francisco Fernandes, who was riding a motorcycle (GDH-6951) wearing a helmet, got his head crushed under the rear wheels of a pick-up (KA-31-6009). The truck was transporting bananas from Sirsi to Mapusa.
Canacona Police informed that Fernandes operating a bakery at Poinguinim was transporting bakery items like cakes, biscuits and breads on his motorcycle.
On reaching near Canacona Police station, Fernandes fell off his two-wheeler and came under the rear wheels of a pick-up which was also proceeding in the same direction.
Unidentified eyewitness informed that the mishap scene was so horrific that a pond of blood immediately began to flow on the slope, while the mutilated body lied motionless.
The incident that occurred at about 8 am was barely few metres from Canacona police station.
, as most of the heavy traffic came to a standstill for over an hour till police conducted the panchanama and removed both the vehicles from accident spot and cleared the traffic.
Sources informed that the deceased, as his normal routine was supplying bakery items to his clients (shops) at Chaudi on his two-wheeler by regularly wearing a helmet. Pick-up driver Murtuza Sher Jaffar immediately proceeded to the police station and surrendered to the police, informed source.
The last rites of Fernandes, who is survived by his wife, three sons and a married daughter, will be held on Thursday evening leaving his residence at Tamnem-Poinguinim to St Sebastian Church, Loliem.
