Poinguinim resident succumbs

CANACONA: Twenty-four-year old Poinguinim resident Shubham Rao, who sustained grievous head injuries after hitting a buffalo en route to Maxem, succumbed in the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim on Thursday.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, when Shubham, a student, was proceeding on his two-wheeler from Char Rasta to Mashem at around 7.30 pm. He failed to see a buffalo on the road and rammed his two-wheeler into the animal. The impact was such that he was thrown off his bike and sustained serious head injuries.

From the Canacona Health Centre, he was shifted to Hospício and later to GMC where he breathed his last on Thursday.

Locals from Canacona expressed outrage on social media over Subham’s death.

“Through minimal fault of his own, he lost his life”, a local said.

“As it was late evening and pouring heavily when the accident occurred, it is most probable that he was unable to see the buffalo”, he said.

People have been complaining of the cattle menace for many years as these animals squatting on the road are the cause of many accidents.

“It’s high time the authorities come up with a solution so that all the herds of cattle that roam freely on roads are taken care of to avoid any more loss of life”, an owner of a cow shelter demanded.
