MIRAMAR: National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research (NCAOR) Director Dr M Ravichandran on Saturday said that Goa Science Centre in a partnership with National Council for Science Museums (NCSM) will develop a polar museum at the present campus of Goa Science Centre, Miramar in the next one year.
Speaking to reporters, Ravichandran said, “It’s one of our objectives to popularise science and the other major objective is also to develop a students museum to teach them why polar region is very important.”
“Polar science is a climate change and climate changes first take place in the polar regions and here we will try and plan to replicate the conditions, which occur in this region and in the next one year we will try to set up this museum so that students are well aware of the situation and the climatic changes,” Ravichandran said.
Meanwhile, Dr Ravichandran also inaugurated the new Celestron CPC 800 Telescope at the Goa Science Centre in the presence of young students and other officials of the GSC.
The Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope is the next generation of computer automated telescope, which gives the amateur astronomers the most sophisticated and easy use of telescope. On every Saturday and Sunday a sky observation programme will be arranged for the students and general public after 6 pm.
