PANJIM: Panjim police have issued an advisory to residents and business establishments in their jurisdiction to install Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTVs) to aid in prevention and detection of crimes.
“We have advised housing societies, shops and other commercial establishments, and various other premises to install CCTVs to safeguard their properties and to help us in detecting any crime,” Police Inspector Siddhant Shirodkar said.
The aim, according to the police, is to ensure that the cameras also cover the outer areas of the establishments so that the movement of people on the road is also captured.
The advisory also comes after a failed robbery attempt at a Bank of Maharashtra ATM, incidentally close to the Panjim PS and Police Headquarters was captured on the CCTV system.
In the 40-second long video, a masked man was seen entering the ATM with a hammer and injuring the security guard severely, by hitting him. The police felicitated the security guard for his bravery, however, it has till date failed to identify and trace the whereabouts of the assailant.
