PANJIM: In view of two fatal road accidents resulting in three deaths this New Year, the Goa Police have issued advisory asking motorists to follow traffic safety rules.
On January 2, a 69-year-old pillion rider succumbed to her injuries when the Activa scooter dashed on to another motorcycle going in the same direction at Agasaim. Both the riders of the Activa and the motorcycle were wearing helmets.
DGP Muktesh Chander said if the riders were not wearing helmets, the accident could have been proven fatal for them as well. He has further insisted that pillion riders should also wear helmets as in this case, the sexagenarian woman was not wearing a helmet.
In the second accident on Jan 4, Surendra, of Uttarakhand and Imran Mandal, of West Bengal, suffered fatal injuries when their bike crashed near Arpora. Both were not wearing helmets. It is suspected that both were in an intoxicated state.
The DGP has also warned that riding/driving any vehicle under influence of alcohol or drugs will attract penal action.
