Police charted out the advisory in the wake of the robbery where 11 thieves, posing as customers, decamped with a briefcase containing Rs 12.10 lakh, leaving the officials clueless about the robbery. The CCTV cameras helped the police trace one accused, who was arrested hours after the crime at Canacona.
The advisory orders strengthening ATM security and fitting a hidden camera to record surroundings of the ATM premises covering the road. “CCTV should not only cover area of operation but outside area as well with night vision and high resolution cameras,” the advisory said.
The banks have also been asked to ensure visibility and clarity/sharpness of the CCTVs, its location and maintaining a back-up in case of power failure. “CCTV cameras should be properly concealed and recording of minimum 30 days saved. The entrance of bank premises besides other crucial areas should be captured by CCTVs,” North Goa bank representatives were told at the hour-long meeting with the police on Friday.
“Security system should be upgraded,” said the advisory issued by the police.
