PANJIM: Police have arrested the four persons who were identified in the gang war that broke out on Sunday and in which one of the victim’s hand was chopped off near the Ribandar ferry wharf on Sunday night.
While three accused in the case were arrested by Old Goa Police, one was arrested by Panjim police.
The two victims of the gruesome attack – Krishna Kuttikar whose hand was chopped off and later re-attached by at GMC on Monday and his brother Yuvnath Kuttikar – continue to be under medical care at the state run hospital in Bambolim.
Old Goa PI Jivba Dalvi said that under the supervision of SP North various teams were in search of the accused. Police received information that three of accused were proceeding towards Margao railway station to flee from Goa. Accordingly Dalvi, accompanied by PSIs Shivram Gawas and Sudin Redkar and constables Mayur Asolkar, Rajat Kuttikar and Aniket Devidas, rushed to the railway station and nabbed them.
The three arrested persons have been identified as Jack Oliviera (30), Kamlesh Kundaikar (26) both residents of Nagali in Taleigao and Manish Hadfadkar (22) resident of Chorao.
Panjim police who were on the lookout for the accused arrested the fourth person who has been identified as Gavrish Bandodkar (28) resident of Nagali in Taleigao. All four have been sent to seven days police custody. Sources said that the other four masked persons of the gang have also been identified and police are on the lookout for them.
Police said that Jack and Kamlesh are drivers by profession and have a criminal background and were earlier arrested by Old Goa police in attempt to murder and are under trial in the crime. The accused Jack is also involved in a crime registered at Panjim police station.
During the course of investigation, Old Goa police recovered the weapon, koita, used in the commission of crime from Kamlesh. The accused persons burnt their mobile phones and as such police have adduced Section 201 of IPC for destruction of evidence. Police has attached burnt mobile ashes during recovery panchanama.
Old Goa police has also recovered the vehicles bearing numbers GA 07 Y 8771 and GA 07 V 4756 used in the crime.
Police said that during the preliminary investigation it has been revealed that the gruesome attack late Sunday night was an outcome of previous enmity between the victims who are the complainants and the accused.
Further investigation is in progress under supervision of SDPO Uttam Raut Dessai and SP North Chandan Choudhari.
