Police arrest gang, recover bikes, mobiles
MARCEL (HC):?Ponda police have recovered 10 motorcycles and seven mobile handsets from the gang arrested in connection with robberies along the highway.
The fourth accused, Ronald Rathos, from Betalbatim was arrested on Friday night.
It may be recalled that Ponda police had arrested Derrick Rathos, Clinton Fernandes and Felton D’Costa at Farmagudi in the wee hours of Friday. Ronald had fled from the scene and was later arrested at Betalbatim.
“The accused had threatened a truck driver at Dharbandora and had decamped with cash of Rs 1,500 and the mobile handset of the driver. Our night patrol staff was alerted of the incident. The car was spotted and after a chase of over 40 minutes, three of the accused were nabbed at Farmagudi. One succeeded in fleeing from the site, but was later arrested at night,” said Ponda PI C L Patil.
“The accused even dashed a police vehicle but could not succeed to go beyond Farmagudi as our night patrol staff used a truck as a barricade.”
“During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and said they had looted truck drivers in different locations in the State. They also revealed their involvement in motorcycle thefts and we have recovered ten stolen motorcycles. More vehicles are also likely to be recovered from the accused,” said PI Patil.
Police have so far recovered seven mobile handsets, cash of rs 8,500, ten stolen motorcycle and also the car used in the offence.
All four accused have been remanded to four days police custody.
