Police arrest ‘murderer’ in 6 hrs

Palolem restaurant waiter from Nepal ‘kills’ colleague, robs Rs 10,000, mobile; Caught at Canacona railway station whilst attempting to escape

CANACONA: A waiter working with a popular restaurant in Palolem allegedly murdered one of his colleagues in the wee hours of Tuesday reportedly for money.
After hitting his colleague with a wooden plank the accused ran away with the victim’s cash and mobile only to be caught within six hours at Canacona railway station while trying to escape from police.
Inspector of Canacona police station and Investigation Officer (IO) Rajendra Prabhudesai said that they received information from Canacona Health Centre that Ranjit Singh, a native of Himachal Pradesh, has been brought in critical condition after being hit on his head.
As Canacona Health Centre neither has a trauma centre nor doctors to handle such serious cases the victim was immediately shifted to the Hospicio hospital in Margao. The floor doctors, however, declared him dead on arrival.
A crime investigating team led by South Goa SP Arvind Gauns assisted by DySP Uttam Raut Desai, Canacona PI Rajendra Prabhudesai, Sanguem PI Sagar Ekoskar, Quepem PI Brutano Peixito, PSIs Prashal Desai, Dhiraj Devidas, Ramchandra Naik and Damodar Shirodkar immediately reached the crime scene.
After speaking to the victim’s colleagues and staff of the restaurant, police came to know that one of their colleagues who was also working as a waiter is absconding.
PI Rajendra Prabhudesai said that his photo and other details were shared with all the police stations across Goa and police personnel were deployed in civil clothes at important locations like bus stands and railway stations.
Canacona Police constable Nagendra Parit caught the accused Nima Tamang, a native of Nepal, at the railway station, when he was trying to flee from Goa.
Canacona locals praised the Canacona PI and others for arresting the accused within six hours of the alleged crime.
Sources close to this investigation said that the motive of the crime was robbery. Rs 10,000 and a switched-off mobile of the victim were recovered from the alleged accused.
Police said that the alleged accused person is arrested under Sections 394 for robbery and 302 for murder.
