MARGAO: In a new twist to the dumping of electric waste at Veroda-Cuncolim, Cuncolim police has attached a vehicle on Sunday noon while it was trying to lift away the waste from the spot.
When the Cuncolim police made their presence felt at the venue of the waste dumping, the workers engaged to load the vehicle fled from the spot. The police later conducted a panchanam of the vehicle before taking the same to the police station.
Social activist Ronny Dias pointed out that the Cuncolim police and the Cuncolim Civic body should conduct a thorough probe into entire episode of electric waste dumping at Veroda. He said the owner of the vehicle should be thoroughly interrogated to bring out the true facts as to who was behind the dumping of waste at the site. “Locals suspect that the electric waste, mostly comprising of damaged tube lights, had come from a panchayat area. Let the police unearth the true fact since it is a serious offense”, Dias demanded.
When contacted, Cuncolim Police Sub-inspector Tukaram Chawan informed that the police has attached the vehicle for further investigations. “When our police party reached the spot, the vehicle driver and others fled from the site”, he said, adding that the police would call the vehicle owner for the purpose of investigations.
