PANJIM: The Panjim police have got a major lead in the mysterious killing of cricket bookie Lakhpat Jain as a GPS-fitted car, in which the victim reportedly traveled, has been tracked down.
Sources said the hired vehicle, fitted with a GPS tracker, was located at Altinho close to the crime scene where Jain’s body was found.
“On the fateful night, the car was located near the crime spot. We are now trying to identify the driver and his whereabouts,” a source said.

police have already got a breakthrough with the arrest of Delhite Vibhor Khanna, prime suspect in the murder. While he is reportedly yet to confess to the crime, a team of senior police officials interrogated him till late Wednesday night.
Through the interrogation, police have also got another lead which clearly indicates that a woman co-suspect was indeed in Goa with Jain and Khanna.
Sources said the woman, along with Khanna, had driven down to Goa in her private vehicle before the incident. They reportedly left Goa in the same vehicle hours after Jain’s body was dumped on the Altinho road.
“Khanna is not cooperating with the investigation. We are probing whether the two cars were driven to the crime scene together, and if yes, in which car the two suspects were in,” said an official.
Khanna was arrested in Delhi last week and brought to Goa on a transit remand on Sunday evening. He was thereafter remanded to five days police custody by a local court. However, the woman co-suspect is still at large while a third suspect is yet to be identified.
