The family, hailing from Ambegal Pale Bicholim, was travelling from Pale to Chorao when their vehicle met with a head-on collision with an oncoming tipper truck near Mohit Ispat factory at Navelim, Bicholim around 11 am on Sunday.
Sitaram’s two children Saloni (14) and Shashwat (5), who were injured in the accident, are undergoing treatment at the GMC hospital Bambolim.
According to Bicholim police, the deceased, Sitaram, was proceeding to Chorao with his family to visit his in-laws by car (GA-04-C-4878) from his residence while the tipper truck (GA -04-C-1518), engaged for Alcon cement factory Surla, was proceeding from Navelim towards the factory when the accident took place.
All the injured were rushed to GMC Hospital Bambolim. Sitaram died on the way to hospital at Amona while his wife breathed her last at about 3.00 pm. The two children are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The bodies of the deceased will be handed over to relatives on Monday after conducting the post mortem.
The panchanama of the accident was conducted by ASI Harishchandra Parab of Bicholim police.
Police have registered an offence against truck driver under section 279, 337 and 304 A of IPC.
