Police control tense situation at Advalpal VP gram sabha

BICHOLIM: Police had to be called in at Advalpal Village Panchayat gram sabha to control the situation when a heated debate between the panchas and some locals over the status of an application to set up a new bar resulted in a tense environment.
During the gram sabha, which was presided over sarpanch Narayan Salgaonkar, a local sought to know from the panchayat the status of his application for permission to set up a new bar. However, when sarpanch clarified that this issue cannot be discussed at the gram sabha, a heated debate erupted between a group supporting the applicant and the panchayat members, which resulted in a tense situation.
The sarpanch called up the police and the situation was brought under control.
The issues such as restarting the transport facility for village school students pursuing higher education in urban areas, de-silting of natural water bodies, cleaning the silt from agricultural land and making available funds from district mining funds for development works were discussed.
It was also decided to make correspondence to North Goa Collector and to inform the Chief Minister on the above issues.
