MAPUSA: In a proactive effort to curb the sale of tobacco products, The Mapusa Sub Division recently conducted a drive resulting in the arrest of two individuals under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). The Mapusa Police charged Samsuddin Zamir Shaikh, a resident of Pinto Vada Verla-Canca, for selling tobacco products in close proximity to the Government Primary School Namushe Girim. Meanwhile, the Anjuna Police registered an offense against Ibrahim Azimulla, a resident of Arpora and native of Madhya Pradesh, for the illegal storage and sale of tobacco products.
During the operation, police confiscated a substantial quantity of cigarettes worth Rs 40,000 from the possession of both accused individuals. Additionally, the Colvale Police registered two separate offences under section 87F of the Goa Daman and Diu Public Health Act, as well as section 24 of the COTPA Act 2003. The offences were against Arun Kumar of Sai Colony Madel, who was found to be illegally storing contraband tobacco products.
Ram Raj Sayaram Nisad, a resident of Sirsaim and native of Uttar Pradesh was booked for the illegal storage of contraband tobacco products worth Rs 1380 at his shop.
