PORVORIM: Conceding that there is huge shortfall of police personnel in the dept, CM Sawant informed the House that the govt will advertise 1,300 police dept posts of police by next month with age relaxation.
Sawant added that at present the dept is short of 1,800 police personnel. He further pointed out that the total strength of the police is 10,271 while 8,135 have been recruited.
“We have recently conducted written test for 119 posts. The results would be out soon,” said Sawant, who also holds the Home portfolio.
“By next month, we will be advertising for 1300 police dept posts. We have decided to grant age relaxation for the recruitment process in a bid to fill up all the vacancies,” he said.
Margao MLA Digamber Kamat had earlier raised concern about shortage of police staff at Margao police station. He pointed out that the police station is short of 32 constables and 15 head constables. Kamat requested that till the time, the vacancies are filled; the govt should recruit IRBs at the police station, as a temporary arrangement.
Lack of Women Police Sub Inspectors
CM Sawant informed that there are 28 police stations without Lady Police Sub Inspectors (LPSI), while 12 LPSI are posted in the traffic department. “We will shift all the 12 LPSIs to police stations considering the women safety,” he said.
Sawant said that police dept had in 2014, advertised for the post of 79 LPSI, however, only 32 posts were filled by direct recruitment The question on shortage of LPSI was raised by MLA Nilkant Halankar, who pointed out that in absence of lady police in-charge, women victims, are been harassed by police to register cases.
