PANJIM: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Saturday said that the police are directed to verify the criminal antecedent of all those people, who enter the State for job purpose.
The statement was made in view of an assault on a 29-year-old Dutch national by the resort staffer Abhishek Verma from Uttarakhand. The accused also attacked Eurico Dias, a local man who had rushed to the woman’s rescue. Both are currently undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim.
Addressing a press conference, Khaunte said that the Chief Minister has already directed the hoteliers to obtain ‘Goa Labour Card’ before employing the staff from outside the State and also to check their criminal antecedent.
“We through police will also be verifying their criminal antecedents,” he said.
Appreciating the courage of Eurico Dias, the Tourism Minister said, “His bravery act shows how tourists can be safe in Goa with Goans in the State’.
The Minister also appealed media to be responsible to ensure responsible tourism is in place.
