PANJIM: The nine-year-old infamous case of police-drug mafia nexus has yet again hit the career of Police Sub-Inspector Sunil Gudlar, who faces possible dismissal from the service.
Gudlar, currently posted at the Special Branch (Panjim Unit), was implicated in alleged trading of drugs, a sensational case that caught international attention followed by suspension and arrest of more than a dozen policemen including Gudlar himself.
While two cases against him are at trial stage, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Rajesh Kumar has outright rejected findings of an ‘enquiry report’ that probably tried to let the accused PSI off the hook.
“On a careful consideration of the Enquiry Report, the undersigned (DIG Kumar) does not agree with the Findings of the Enquiry Officer in view of the reasons indicated in the Disagreement Note. The undersigned therefore, proposes to impose on the said PSI Sunil Gudlar of GRP “B” Coy, Altinho, Panjim and temporarily attached to SB (Special Branch), Panjim the Penalty of Dismissal from Service,” an extract of the memorandum sent to the PSI on February 25 reads.
The DIG has however given him an opportunity to present his defence provided the representation is made in writing with documentary evidence within 15 days.
“He is also permitted to appear before the undersigned (DIG Kumar) immediately after submitting his written reply and say anything in his defence with documentary evidence, if any. If he does not use this opportunity of personal hearing, the undersigned shall proceed to decide the case based on his written reply and other evidence in the Departmental Enquiry files,” it further states.
Gudlar fell in the trap in a sting operation orchestrated by Israeli national David alias Dudu Driam’s sister Ayala and girlfriend Zarina and released on social media platform in January 2011.
In the tape, Gudlar had allegedly stated that he himself wants Dudu, arrested in the nexus case, to be out of the jail. In the complete version of Gudlar story, the tape aired on a local news channel showed how the PSI had received directions to the flat of Zarina and he was picked up from Parra junction to this flat where the entire sting operation was planned.
Further, the PSI had allegedly said that his seniors who are posted here from Delhi are down here to make money. He said that he has been giving his seniors money often and referred to money as ‘Mahatma Gandhi.’
The alleged nexus had come to light in 2010 after a Swedish model, during her stay in Goa, posted her boyfriend and an alleged drug peddler’s video clips in which he purportedly admitted to his links with some police personnel. Two Israelis were arrested followed by arrest of several policemen from the ranks of constable to police inspector.
