“Only one case was booked for drunken driving in the city. The drive began at 7 pm and concluded at midnight 1 o’clock,” a senior Panjim police station official said.
The drive was initiated across the State by traffic police. Superintendent of Police Suman Goyal had issued a circular directing the in-charges of the police stations and traffic cells to carry out special drive against drunken driving.
The focus of the drive was to curb the drunken driving. The police posted at Miramar Circle, Divja Circle and Mandovi bridge checked thousands of vehicles.
Policemen armed with special alcometers were checking breathe of the drivers. While just one case was of drunken driving, 213 cases were booked for not wearing helmet and driving without seat belt. A fine of Rs 22,700 was collected during the drive.
Six PSIs and 25 constables were employed during the drive, said Panjim Police Inspector Siddhant Shirodkar, who was personally present at the Mandovi bride on Saturday night for checking.
