Police in search of Goan duo who bought child for Rs 1 lakh

Fatima Fernandes and Jerry Paul Noronha, the Goan duo involved in the case of purchasing a child for one lakh rupees, are currently being sought after by kolhaapur police.

Fatima Fernandes and Jerry Paul Noronha, the duo, who purchased the child, were not found during the search conducted by Kolhapur police. However, authorities have applied to obtain call detail records related to the transaction between the woman selling the child and the duo, and further investigation is pending upon their analysis.

The incident unfolded when Poonam Dhenge, a resident of Ingli village in Kolhapur, sold her one-year-old daughter to Fatima Fernandes and Jerry Paul Noronha, who are residents of goa, for one lakh rupees on March 27, 2024, amidst a family dispute. Poonam’s husband, Dilip Dhenge, reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of Poonam, her boyfriend Sachin Kondekar from Shahapur, and mediator Kiran Patil. Despite these arrests, the whereabouts of the sold girl and the couple from Goa remain unknown.

A team from Kolhapur, including Assistant Police Inspector Rupali Patil and Constable Sandeep Patil, traveled to Goa in pursuit of Fatima and Jerry. However, their efforts were in vain as both the couple and the child were untraceable. The mobile phones of Fatima Fernandes and Jerry Paul Noronha are inaccessible, with only their mobile tower locations being detectable. To aid in the investigation, authorities have requested call detail records from the relevant mobile company.

Concerns have been raised about the lack of cooperation between the Kolhapur and Goa police in jointly investigating the case, given its complexity and the potential involvement of a larger racket. Collaborative efforts could shed light on various aspects of the child trafficking incident.
