PANJIM: The Goa Police have launched an inquiry into a video of a Konkani speaking Muslim boy fearing threat from his community for reporting about a man who lately returned from Tablighi Jamaat, held at Nizamuddin, New Delhi.
The 2.15 minute-long video from his Facebook account has been viral on social media with concerned citizens urging police to give him protection. The youth, who identifies himself as Faizal Shaikh from Navelim claims he had informed the COVID-19 helpline about a man who allegedly returned from Jamaat and is suspected to have been infected with the virus.
Angst that his identity was revealed, Shaikh said a group of men, purportedly from his community, attacked and abused him. While asking for a ban on Tablighi Jamaat, he has requested viewers to inform Chief Minister Pramod Sawant about the incident.
“It’s fine that I am assaulted but people’s lives have to be saved. Please share the video… They will kill me,” he said while also seeking an inquiry on how his identity was revealed.
Goa Police has launched an inquiry with the department’s Twitter handle replying to a concerned citizen, “Thank you for sharing your concern. We are seized of the matter and an inquiry is being conducted.”
