MARGAO: Margao saw a substantial increase in traffic movement on the streets as the police apparently took it lightly as some barricades were removed and others were not manned.
There was increase in traffic even though the SGPDA and Gandhi Market remained shut on Wednesday.
The barricades that were put at the MMC building junction were removed on Wednesday and the one at the Old Market Circle was not manned in the morning.
The police personnel posted there were seen taking shelter in the shade at an adjacent building and all were seen relaxing there with no one at the junction.
The SGPDA Market continued to remain closed. However, a gate of the retail fish market was broken by somebody. A fruit vendor from the fruit and vegetable market had opened his store and made brisk business.
The Gandhi Market surprisingly remained shut on Wednesday with even the fruit and vegetable vendors not selling anything. On the other hand at New Market, though only one of its eight gates was opened, many store keepers opened their shutters and large crowd were seen buying commodities.
At Benaulim, the supply of essentials by the volunteers was stopped as the distributors did not supply stock; but at Chandor, the sarpanch managed to supply provisions to the inmates of the Home for the Aged managed by St Vincent de Paul Society of Margao.
Meanwhile, All Goa Bakers and Confectioners Association President Peter Fernandes has appealed to all bakers to apply for passes with their respective collectors as the chief minister has already instructed Collectors to issue passes to bakers to supply bread to the people.
