PANJIM: The transfer of three Special Investigation Team (SIT) officers, handling Goa’s one of the largest scams in the mining and property (land) sectors, could temporarily impact the ongoing probe.
The Police Inspectors (PIs), in the know of case details, were replaced with station in charges of other police stations through an order on Thursday.

Police Inspector Dattaguru Sawant, associated with SIT Mining for several years, is amongst those assigned new postings in what Goa Police claims is a “routine transfer”.
Herald had recently reported about apprehensions raised over the completion of the investigation into 130-odd mining leases within a short duration after Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant directed the SIT to expedite probe into the remaining FIRs.
The SIT launched its investigation into the alleged fraud since its inception in August 2013 when fresh cases were registered as well as FIRs transferred from different police stations were examined. It is a full-fledged team comprising of mining experts, police, and Chartered Accountants working on it.
As the matter is sub-judice with 80 per cent cases at different stages of the trial in the court, the SIT with the assistance of experts is probing into one of the two main FIRs which have 130-odd mining leases under the scanner. The fate of the two main cases now hangs in balance considering that the Chief Minister sought for early completion of the probe.
