MARGAO: NGO Bailancho Ekvott convenor Auda Viegas has termed the police investigation into the death of Xeldem, Quepem resident Vaibhavi Velguekar as lethargic.
Vaibhavi had attempted suicide by setting herself ablaze by pouring turpentine. She died in the first week of November.
Vaibhavi had suffered 80 per cent burns and lost the battle for life at GMC.
The Quepem police acting upon the complaint from her family had registered a case under Section 498-A r/w 34 of IPC for cruelty by husband/in laws. The NGO has alleged that the police have shown lethargic attitude in investigating the case.
“It is a murder I say as the girl was harassed to death by her in-laws,” Auda Viegas alleged. “Except for a piece of cloth and one more piece of evidence, the police have recovered nothing in the case,” Auda further alleged.
