PERNEM: Pernem police recovered the body of Bhalchandra Krishna Vaigankar (44), a resident of Khalchawada in Arambol from the rocks near Tiracol Fort.
Vaigankar had jumped off the Aronda bridge on Tuesday afternoon after he was provoked to commit suicide by his two abductors.
However, the Pernem police on Thursday managed to recover his body with the help of navy and coastal police.
Police informed that Vaigankar was first abducted by two persons namely Jocky Fernandes and Santosh Nagvekar for money transaction. Later, the two alleged abductors abetted him to commit suicide by jumping off the Aronda bridge.
Police sources said the victim Vaigankar was on his two-wheeler on Tuesday afternoon, when the two alleged abductors stopped him and abducted him on his own vehicle. Later, the family members of Vaigankar received a phone call demanding Rs 1 lakh which was borrowed by Vaigankar from his alleged abductors.
However, after some time, the family received a call informing that a person has jumped off the Aronda bridge.
On receiving call, the family members rushed to Aronda bridge where they found Vaigankar’s two-wheeler locked on the bridge and the keys were missing.
While the police recovered the body at 4 pm on Thursday, the alleged two abductors surrendered themselves before the Pernem police half an hour before the body could found.
The alleged accused persons have been booked under Section 306 for abetting the victim to commit suicide. Police have asked for phone call details of the accused persons for further investigation of the case.
