PANJIM: “If I had not been given protection by police, I would have been killed by the BJP Yuva Morcha members,” NSUI State President Ahraz Mulla alleged on Saturday demanding re-election of the Goa University (GU) Council Election.
BJP-backed Yuva Morcha swept the GU council election winning all nine seats. During the election process on Friday, scuffles occurred between BJPYM and NSUI members, forcing the police to intervene and resolve the issue. Mulla, who was allegedly attacked by BJPYM members, was driven away from the spot by police.
“The situation was so worst that if police had not given me protection at that time, I would have been killed by BJPYM members….they abused me even on my religion,” Mulla told media persons informing that a complaint with police has been filed against the BJPYM members including Akhil Parrikar, Atmaram Barve, Gajanan Tilve and Pranav Savardekar.
NSUI has demanded that GU should call for re-election of the council.
Meanwhile, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) and NSUI will hold a joint march on August 29, opposing the atrocities of the students.
AICC general secretary and Goa desk in-charge Digvijay Singh said that the NSUI members and candidates were abused and threatened by the BJPYM. “They went to such an extent that they even threatened the parents of the students,” he said.
