Police say they are close to cracking ISIS threat letter case

PANJIM: Goa Police claim they are close to cracking the ISIS threat letter case. A senior officer told Herald that the postcard, received at Secretariat was posted in Panjim.

The investigating agency may now rely on CCTV footage at Panjim Post Office or adjoining areas to identify the person who posted the letter.
“The letter has a stamp of Panjim Head Post Office. It was addressed to the government and not on any specific postal address at Secretariat,” he said.
Porvorim police, which is investigating the letter, is being supervised by Anti Terrorist Squad. “We are soon to get a breakthrough in the case. If the post office has CCTV cameras fitted, we will ask for footage. Else, rely on witnesses at the post office and persons who first encountered the letter at Secretariat,” the officer said.
The prima facie inquiry leads police to suspect it could be a prank even as it has stepped up security across the State. “Security to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has been enhanced as and when he arrives in the State, till his departure from here,” the officer said.
The letter was received in the Central Registry of Goa Secretariat on January 13 at 11.30 am soon after which Under Secretary Prashant Shirodkar alerted the police. Photocopies of the original postcard were then circulated to all the police stations and units to ensure law and order is maintained at its respective jurisdictions.
