PANJIM: Making desperate attempts to crack the Old Goa heist cum murder mystery, the Goa Police have called for mobile call records of all security guards employed at the Christian Art Museum.
The Crime Branch, which has been roped in to assist the Old Goa police in solving the robbery and murder of the 55-year-old security guard Luis Bogato, has already begun scrutinizing call records available at the moment.
Senior police officers said they are relying on several thousand call details of the security guards, all of whom are registered with the Mumbai-based security company NISA.
“The Crime Branch is preparing a report on the call details and is expected to complete the task in a day or two,” said sources.
So also, if the teams sent to Panvel, a Naxal-prone area in Chattisgarh and Sundargarh district in West Bengal manage to get concrete evidence based on the clues found here, it would give the case a crucial breakthrough.
:We found certain articles which are reportedly brought from Sundargarh. If we can get hold of the CCTV footage from those establishments, it would help in the investigations,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Gajanan Prabhudesai said.
The travel tickets found at the crime spot are also being examined. “Two masterminds are at large for which our teams have already launched a manhunt. Besides, we will zero in on more security guards,” said the officer.
Meanwhile, like-minded citizens have expressed anguish over the irresponsible statement made by the committee of the art gallery.
“This ‘unsigned’ press note by the committee is a belated and weak ‘explanation’ on the course of unfortunate events that took place at the Christian Art Museum. It is in fact a brilliant exercise in hogwash, meant to deceive the people of Goa about the real reason why on the night of January 25 their heritage was stolen,: Victor Gomes, founder curator of the art gallery, said.
While questioning the negligence by the museum authorities, Gomes said that they cannot fool the Goans.
“Goans will not be fooled by the meaningless verbiage of this press note and the insincere ‘compassion’ and ‘sympathy’ towards life lost and the priceless property stolen on that day. We all know that the real reason for our immeasurable loss can be encapsulated in just a few words: negligence, apathy and inefficiency of the committee,” he added.
