PANJIM: Gawada Kunbi Velip and Dhangar (GAKUVED) Federation has raised suspicion on the Agassaim police for shielding the four students of Goa Medical College, who are facing rustication for allegedly assaulting their junior in the Boys Hostel. The Federation has demanded that the Goa government appoint a committee under a retired Judge or District Collector to inquire into the matter.
The Federation has condemned the assault and is also in the process of filing a police complaint under the ST Act.
“GAKUVED condemns the brutal assault of GMC student Sameer Velip by four senior GMC students in the boys’ hostel. This is a clear case of discrimination and Atrocities against ST community member Sameer Velip. We as Gakuved Federation will investigate the matter to find out more facts and will file a complaint under the Prevention of Atrocities Act against the four accused who assaulted victim Sameer Velip,” Federation’s General Secretary Rupesh Velip said on Tuesday, in a press statement.
GAKUVED also stated that “It appears that PI of Agassaim Police station Tulsidas Naik is trying to safeguard the four accused. If found that PI Tulsidas Naik has compromised and protected the said four accused, Gakuved Federation will not hesitate to file a complaint against the said PI Tulsidas Naik,” he warned.
GAKUVED has further demanded that Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, who is also holding the portfolio of Home and Tribal Welfare, appoint a committee headed by District Collector or a retired judge to investigate the matter.
The Chairperson of the Goa Commission for SC/ST should also take suo-moto-cognizance of the act and initiate an inquiry as per the provisions of the Goa Commission for SC/ST Act, 2010, demanded GAKUVED.
GAKUVED Federation has taken the matter very seriously, Velip said.
