BICHOLIM, DEC 23
Even as health department and PHC have taken steps to clean the city, Bicholim Police station still seems to be the neglected lot.
It may be recalled that Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC) and PHC recently started cleanliness drive and a special meeting to this effect was also convened. The drive was inaugurated from Shardanagar-Bordem in the presence of all the BMC councilors and PHC health officers.
However, despite the cleanliness drive, the police station seems to be neglected by all. It has become a safe heaven for mosquitoes and the police have also expressed that they might be affected by malaria.
“It becomes impossible to remain in open near the police station and if something is not done immediately, there are health risks involved,” a constable attached to Bicholim police station told Herald.
“This problem has been there since the last several years, but no one has paid any attention to it,” said the police constable.
According to sources, the basic cause of this is the lack of cleanliness behind the police station and other obvious cause is the unused cars that are dumped in the vicinity of the police station, which is likely to lead to mosquitoes.
“There are several weeds and plants which are grown that go unnoticed by the authorities. The entire surrounding area of the police station has become filthy, thus causing great health risk to the police staff,” added sources.
