PANJIM: Days after Herald highlighted that nuisance was being created by miscreants, anti-social elements, illegal parking had become a common sight along the walkway-cum-cycle track at the Mandovi riverfront at Campal in Panjim, Goa police has stepped up patrolling in the area and also erected warning boards.
The boards inform people that the drinking of alcohol, dumping of garbage and riding/driving two wheelers and four-wheelers on walkway/promenade is strictly prohibited and warn that defaulters will be dealt as per law.
The miscreants were found eating, drinking and throwing trash including liquor bottles and beer cans along the walkway-cycle track despite numerous dustbins placed in the area. These miscreants and anti-social elements were riding their bikes on the walkway as well as on the cycle track.
Locals had requested the police to intensify patrolling in the area and take required action so as to give a sense of security to the regular walkway users.
“North Goa police committed to making their community better through traffic awareness, community support, fitness drives, and cleanliness initiatives. These efforts can have a positive impact on the well-being of residents and visitors alike, North Goa Superintendent of Police Nidhin Valsan said.
Assistant Professor of the Department of Hindi at Goa University Aditya Sinai Bhangui, who had also brought the issue to the notice of the authorities through a post on Twitter, thanked the police for taking required action.
