PANJIM: A joint team of the Porvorim and Panjim Police will travel to Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, in connection with the spate of car thefts reported in Goa over the last few months.
A senior Police officer said the joint team, led by a senior police sub inspector, will be sent to probe links in connection with the car thefts and two of the persons arrested by Kerala Police, and linked to car thefts in Goa, will be brought on transfer warrant.
“Kerala Police have informed us that the arrested accuses have confessed to stealing over 10 vehicles in Goa. We are waiting for the court procedure to be completed. Once a transfer warrant is ready the team will be sent to Kerala,” an officer told Herald.
Despite modern security systems, various cars, including government vehicles, were stolen from different locations in Goa in the last six months. It is learnt that the stolen cars worth lakhs of rupees are then sold for a few thousands of rupees.
As per details from Goa Police four cars were stolen from Porvorim, five from Panjim, two each from Old Goa and Ponda. Two vehicles belonging to Education Department and one vehicle of the Revenue Department are also in the list of stolen vehicles.
Recently, Pune and Kerala Police busted gangs operating in their States and Kerala Police found a link to Goa. Based on the inputs and CCTV footage provided by Porvorim Police, Kerala Police arrested two persons also involved in theft cases.
