Police team returns from MP verifying rape accused

MARGAO: Even as the team of Colva police has returned from Madhya Pradesh today, the police will be seeking additional remand for the three accused in the rape case as their remand period gets over today.

MARGAO: Even as the team of Colva police has returned from Madhya Pradesh today, the police will be seeking additional remand for the three accused in the rape case as their remand period gets over today.
Colva Police Inspector Filomeno Costa said the address of all the three accused has been verified by the team that had gone to Madhya Pradesh. The team headed by Head Constable Sidharth Kumba returned this morning.
Besides, they have also got the details of the four cases booked against Ishwar Makhawana the main accused in the case in Goa. Two murder cases, including one double murder, are booked against him besides two gang rapes and a robbery cases.
The three are going to be produced before the court tomorrow to seek additional remand.
Nuvem MLA writes to Collector
Meanwhile Congress MLA representing Nuvem constituency Wilfred, alias Babashan, D’Sa today presented a memorandum to South Goa Collector Anjali Sehrawat demanding a meeting with her to chalk out a plan of action to avoid repetition of the May 24 gang rape incident.
Referring to the meeting organised by the locals from Betalbatim on May 31, Wilfred demanded that the three should be tried in Goa for the crime committed by them and the victim should be given justice expeditiously.
He asked for intensified surveillance on the beach by installing CCTV cameras, police patrolling and local committee policing. Besides, he said high masts lights, four armed lights and even solar lamps be used to illuminate the beach. He also suggested regular trimming of trees and bushes and beach cleanliness.
