PANJIM: A major change is expected in the Goa Police Department in the form of strengthening the force with the addition of 50 vehicles to its existing fleet, 30 computers exclusively for Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) project besides an increase in staff strength.
The department has already been given a go-ahead to procure 41 four-wheelers, most of which will be accommodated against the condemned vehicles, while an additional nine vehicles of different types will also be included.
“The four-wheelers would be allocated to operational units like police stations, traffic cell, police control room, anti-terrorism squad, etc. There are a few vehicles which are being condemned and some from the newly-procured vehicles will fill the vacuum,” Director General of Police Muktesh Chander told Herald.
As a part of its upgradation plan, the department has also got approval for 30 computers which would be exclusively set up for the CCTNS project, soft launch of which is expected in the coming days. Chander confirmed this and said more ventures will soon be rolled out.
“We want to develop individual capacity in all the units including Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, Traffic, Security, etc,” the police chief said, conceding that Goa is witnessing a series of events all year round.
Similarly, an increase in manpower besides promotion of ad-hoc deputy superintendents of police is also on the cards. “The ad-hoc DySPs would be promoted, and those on regular will be considered for promotion to the rank of SP, depending on his/her seniority,” he said adding that one SP is due for retirement.
Vacancies in the mainstream and administrative sections will be advertised in near future, he added.
Claiming that the Police Department is well-equipped in terms of arms and ammunitions, the officer further claimed that its upgadation is also carried out on a regular basis.
