Police to seek from Kochi cops details of drug raid on actress

The Malayalam TV actress was reportedly visiting Goa to attend drug laced parties

PANJIM: Goa Police have decided to approach its counterparts in Kochi (Kerala) seeking details of an ongoing investigation into a drug raid that saw Malayalam TV actress’ arrest and revelation on visiting Goa to attend drug laced parties.
On December 16, Thrikkakara police had arrested actress Aswathy Babu and her associate Binoy with MDMA following a tip-off. Sources said that the investigation has revealed that she was not only an alleged drug peddler but also attended rave parties in Goa. While the details are not known, the Goa police have decided to approach their counterparts back in Kerala to unearth the illicit trade here.
“We will get in touch with our counterparts in Kochi to get details of the raid and the actress’ alleged links in Goa whether she came here for self consumption or sell, etc,” Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh told Herald when asked if the local police would intervene into the disclosure made by the Kochi police.
It has also come to the fore that during one such party in Goa, Babu had met one Arun, a Bangalore-based Kerala native from whom she would allegedly purchase drugs. Sources in Goa Anti-Narcotics Cell told Herald that the team would launch a parallel investigation into the revelation so as to lay its hands on drug traders in Goa. “The Kochi police’s investigation might help us unearth another drug activity in Goa,” the source said.
In Goa, the ANC has booked 215 cases this year so far and seized around 80 kg of a cocktail of drugs.  Besides drug trafficking, the police teams in Goa have also arrested four Russians for cultivating cannabis at two different locations in the northern coastal belt.
