PANJIM: Goa Police has initiated ‘Guard Files’ to closely supervise the investigation of a case and quickly and effectively bring it to its logical conclusion, with special focus on heinous and high profile offences.
Deputy Inspector General of Police K K Vyas told Herald that the higher ups in the department, up to the level of Director General of Police will personally monitor the probe.
“The guard file is initiated at the level of investigating officers and reported up to DIG after going through the offices of Police Inspector, Deputy Superintendent of Police and concerned SP. Wherever required, the investigation case papers are referred to DGP,” Vyas disclosed.
The informal system has been created for effective monitoring of some of the important cases which require special attention.
The department has also planned reviving the police-community relations through coordination meetings to meet challenges pertaining to crime at respective places across the State. In the wake of increasing house breaks thefts and other burglaries at commercial establishments, the department has advised the respective owners to adopt security measures.
“Apart from crime, we are also educating them on white collar crimes such as cheating, frauds, fake investment schemes and a lot many other cases” he explained.
In 2012, the department had started ‘Saad Sanvaad’ – a community policing initiative which was launched by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to have better understanding and bridge communication gap between police and public.
