Police tracking phone call details of cricket bookie

PANJIM: Even as the Panjim police are awaiting forensic evidence, to register the death of cricket bookie Lakhpat Jain as murder, they are tracking his last movements and his cellphone call details.  Jain was found dead on Altinho-Bhatulem slope, this
week, and investigations revealed he carried an entry
pass of an offshore casino. The Ahmednagar native was
earlier arrested by the rime Branch sleuths in
connection with IPL cricket betting and released on
bail thereafter.
“The case is registered as unnatural death as there
was no injury or fracture on his body. The post mortem
report also did not reveal anything suspicious to
register the case as murder. However, to ascertain the
cause of death, we will send the viscera samples to
Karnataka Forensic Science Laboratory on Monday,
depending on this, we will proceed with the probe,” PI
Rajendra Prabhudesai said.
Prabhudesai denied that they had frozen the
investigation, claiming they are tracking the
deceased’s last movements and his call details. “We
are still probing how he reached the spot where his
body was found. His last movements are being
investigated,” Prabhudesai said.
The Jain family claimed the body on Friday. However,
his son has demanded to probe the death as murder. “We
have called the son to testify before us after
conducting final rites of his father in Ahmednagar. He
is expected to arrive in Goa in the next four-to-five
days,” he said.
