MARGAO: Investigations by the Cuncolim police has finally revealed that the electric waste found dumped at Veroda along the road leading to the Seven Temples had come from the village panchayat of Chinchinim.
Sub-divisional police officer, DySP Mohan Naik, told Herald that investigation has revealed that one of the panch members had handed over the electric waste, consisting of damaged tube lights, to a contractor, who later dumped the waste at Veroda.
He said the Cuncolim police were prompt in attaching the vehicle used for the waste dumping and the vehicle driver was also remanded to judicial custody by the court.
Replying to a question, he said the Cuncolim police could not lodge a case against the Chinchinim panchayat since the panch member did not ask the contractor to dump the electric waste in the jurisdiction of Cuncolim Municipal Council.
The dumping of electric waste at Veroda had created a furore in Cuncolim with social activist Ronny Dias complaining about the illegal activity to the Cuncolim police.
