Police vigil to intensify in Salcete ahead of p’yat polls

MARGAO: With the panchayat elections around the corner, the Salcete police are gearing up to improve the security within its jurisdictions and keep a check on the sale of liquor.

Sources informed that an additional police force including police sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors, head constables etc will be deployed in various parts of Salcete on August 10 for panchayat election duty.

The source informed that patrolling will be intensified across the city from the eve of the election.

However, a police officer on conditions of anonymity said that some of the police stations are facing a shortage of staff and posting staff for bandobast has become difficult. “Nevertheless we have to manage with strength,” he said.

A meeting has been convened on August 8 at South Goa Police Headquarters, Margao to brief the police staff about the preparations for election duty and bandobast.
